Special features of DONMA:We welcome novice photographers! It is an especially valuable opportunity for photographers who are just beginning to investigate working with the nude male form, who have not had the opportunity to work with a variety of models, or who are simply curious about this subject area. The unique environment where a collection of photographic artists will be working in proximity presents many opportunities to learn. Both because there is a collection of differing experiences/ideas and because regular sessions pair two photographers with each model, you will be modifying your techniques by watching, in part, what others are doing to create their own images, and how they interact with and direct the models. Additionally, for most individual photographers, assembling a group of models and finding and reserving a private estate would be a tremendously difficult and expensive effort. This workshop puts it all together to support your interest and to encourage your photographic experimentation at a very reasonable price. Professional photographers already recognize the value of the workshop because of their experience, and we welcome them equally, and offer the opportunity (to everyone) to book models for exclusive working sessions if you really wish to concentrate on working with your model(s). |
What to expect:There will be five one-hour sessions during the day. Models will be prepared to begin on-time, and direction of the model(s) will be distributed equally among the artists in each group. You may choose not to direct the model during the session, or to combine your time with another artist. Overshooting is unprofessional. You may only photograph the sessions for which you are scheduled. Please negotiate your shooting with the other artist(s) who may be participating in your session individually. Models need regular breaks, so they will not be posing outside of the scheduled session times. Everyone will break at the same time so we can maintain a functional schedule. Please arrive at the registration desk EARLY to orient yourself to the facilities. We continue to publish preview photos for models as we receive their release forms. Sessions will be rotated indoors/outdoors so too much sun exposure does not become a problem. |
What to bring:Sun-block, umbrella, bottled water, art supplies, reflectors, diffusers, towels, lawn chair, comfortable summer clothes and shoes, a watch, headphones, props, batteries (for camera or walkman or laptop), snack food, bag for trash, your registration paperwork and ID, protective canvas for the floor if painting indoors, laptop for downloading digital photos, etc. |
What not to bring:Pets, friends/guests, drugs, drama, more than you can carry by yourself, etc. |
