Q: Are the artists going to be nude too?
A: No, only the models will be nude. Please identify yourself as one of the artists by wearing your clothes. This is not a naturist event.
Q: Is this a gay event?
A: No, the models will all be men, but any artist (male or female) who works with the nude male form is welcome.
Q: Who are or can I see the models in advance?
A: There will be a variety of models. We will be publishing photos of as many of the models as possible. If you are only interested in working with a particular model and do not want to be randomly assigned to models, we recommend that you choose the option for an exclusive arrangement. Please encourage other artists to attend the workshop, because the more photographers, the more models will be provided, giving you the greatest selection. If you have unique model requirements, or wish to work with a well-known photography model, please talk to us. We can book specific models for the workshop. Photography models selected will be of various ages. Preference is given to physically fit, attractive photography models.
Q: What is the artist/model ratio?
A: The planned ratio in each session is 1 model for 2 photographers. It may vary slightly based on the number of registrants and in special demonstration sessions which may have more artists attending. You may always "reserve" an exclusive model for the day in advance so you will be guaranteed 1-on-1 sessions all day.
Q: Is this workshop primarily for professional photographers?
A: No, "artists" of all skill levels and experience are welcome. Professional behavior is expected, but not skill. This is a learning environment and artistic experimentation is encouraged. Artists who paint, sculpt, draw, or photograph are equally welcome.
Q: Are lighting equipment or other supplies provided?
A: No, please bring all the necessary components you need to make your art. Keep in mind that while there is lots of space outdoors, there are not huge amounts of space indoors. Working groups are small to minimize any crowding. You may not be guaranteed access to an electrical outlet, so make sure to bring spare batteries and a fill flash because studio lights may not be possible.
Q: Will you have a blank studio setup for photographer to shoot in?
A: No, because a studio situation can be constructed anywhere. We have selected this unique location so you can take advantage of the natural settings and unique architectural features. If you wanted to shoot in a blank studio, you could have done that anywhere.
Q: How will you handle two photographers with one model?
A: You will be expected behave professionally and share your time equitably during each session. Please do not overshoot the other photographer in your session (shoot at the same time). Take turns, shoot when the other photographer pauses. Work with each other creatively and frankly, just don't be a hog. It will be up to you to negotiate your working relationship with another photographer present. If you can't work with others around, please reserve an exclusive model.
Q: Can I bring a photo assistant to help with lighting and equipment?
A: If you expect to require an assistant, we recommend that you work with an exclusive model. However, if you identify your need in advance, we will have some people registered as auditors of the workshop who will be helping many of the sessions with reflectors, props, and general assistant duties, although they will need your direction on how to do so.
Q: Can I stay with the same model or in the same location the entire day?
A: Part of the purpose of the workshop is to be able to work with a variety of models and in a variety of settings that as an individual artist you may not be able to often acquire on your own. If you want to work with just one model, we recommend you select the option to hire an exclusive model for the day. You will not be able to sign up for one location repeatedly.
Q: If I hire an exclusive model, can I work with different models in different sessions?
A: Yes you may. All arrangements for exclusive models are handled individually to best accomodate your needs.
Q: Can we request erotic poses from the model?
A: You may request these poses, although the model has the option to decline your requests. There will be some models that have a specific interest in erotic poses, and those sessions will be identified in advance so you may register appropriately. If you are registering to shoot an unusual style of photos/poses, please talk to us in advance to make sure we have models who will respond to your requests.
Q: Will there be sessions with two models instead of one?
A: There are not currently any duo sessions planned, however this may change. If you have a special requirement for two models, please discuss your needs with us to see how you may be accommodated.
Q: Can I bring my own model to work on all day by myself?
A: Yes, but you must contact us so we can have the correct paperwork completed by your model (for liability). This will not change your basic registration fee ($199) but you will need to pay for your model's lunch ($15).
Q: Can I both model and work as an artist?
A: We prefer that you choose your identity for the day, either model or artist. Because of complex scheduling requirements with a large group of registrants and models, it would be too complicated to offer this option.
Q: What is my registration fee used for?
A: The majority of the registration fee goes directly to paying the models fairly for their time. The remainder goes to the rental of the private facility, your included lunch, and just a little for the cost of advertising.
Q: Can you help me get there?
A: We will evaluate the transportation issues when the next workshop is scheduled.
Q: What is parking like?
A: We will assure available parking.
Q: I have special dietary needs, can you accommodate me?
A: We can provide a vegetarian lunch if you request it in advance. If you have other special dietary requirements, we recommend that you bring your lunch or seek lunch in town. This will not change your basic registration fee.
Q: May I smoke?
A: Please no smoking except in the parking area. Although you may be working outdoors, smoking can irritate other artists and models, as well as create a fire hazard. Please dispose of cigarette butts in an appropriate ashcan or ashtray.
Q: Can I show up late?
A: We prefer that you show up on-time, registration will begin one hour prior to the first modeling session. Parking will be much easier if you show up on-time. If you show up late, you may join the day in-progress.
Q: Can I register on-site for the workshop?
A: No, this is a private facility and all registrations must be completed in advance. Registration will close on 3 weeks prior to the event and no more reservations will be accepted. This ensures we hire enough models in advance.
Q: May I bring a guest who is not an artist?
A: Only paid registrants will be permitted on the grounds, this is both for the privacy of the models and for liability reasons. We ask that only artists who intend to work register for the event. There are a few auditing positions for the workshop. You may learn about them on the web site.
Q: May I enjoy the facilities and not work during a session?
A: For the comfort of the models and to prevent the distraction of the artists who are working, we ask that you return to the parking area or lounge area if you need a break and wish to skip a session. You may observe from a non-intrusive distance, but we don't want working artists to mistake your intentions, or be disturbed while they are working with their model(s). Do not shoot photos of someone else's session.
Q: Are there places to sit outdoors?
A: There may be some rocks or chairs to sit on depending on the location, but we recommend you bring a towel and/or a folding stool (campground style) to sit on if you need this.
Q: Why don't you publish the address/map?
A: This is a private facility. To avoid any unwanted attention for the owner, we are mailing maps and directions to registrants only. We do not want to draw the attention of area residents who might disrupt your workshop experience. No unregistered persons will be permitted on the grounds.
Q: When will I receive my confirmation of registration?
A: You will receive a confirmation on the next business day. If you reached the "thank you" page, your registration information was received. Your card will be charged securely for the registration.
Q: Can I pay by check or money order or on-site?
A: We would appreciate your payment by credit card because it simplifies our administrative requirements. If you are uncomfortable submitting your information online, you may fax your completed registration form to us at 810-592-2668. All registrations and payments must be in advance. Mailed registrations must be RECEIVED before the closing date and payments should be endorsed to NOT Limited, PO Box 69, Washington Grove, MD 20880. Do not mail cash. Credit card charges will appear on your statement as "NOT Limited"
Q: How can I contact DONMA?
